Overview

The April new moon star party at Piney Woods Dark Sky Retreat will be on April 24th through the 29th. This will be our first star party for 2025 out at Piney Woods.

It does get down into the 30s at night so be prepared. Daytime highs are expected in the 50s.

STAY OFF THE GRASS - This is a sensitive time for our telescope field. The new grass is starting to come up and we want to give it as much of a chance to set as possible. So we are asking everyone to please keep off the telescope field. In the meantime we will close off the gravel drive that surrounds the field and make that only for telescopes.

RSVP: If you plan on attending please email darkskysite@seattleastro.org so we know how many are coming. We have 2 RV spots available, If you want to reserve one it will be first two people that send a email requesting a spot. We will send directions to the site.

More Information

Star Party ettiquette will be enforced.

If you have a laptop or tablet please put it under a cover like a plastic bin to help direct any stray light. Any bright annoying LEDs should be covered with tape. Seestar LEDs can be very annoying and so can the newer mounts. Please consider your neighbors.

Piney Woods should be treated like a dry camping site. You bring your own food and water. Haul out your garbage.

There is internet available through our Starlink terminal.

Goldendale is only 15 minutes away. There are gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, and other amenities available.

The Goldendale Observatroy has a daytime and a nighttime program. You must reserve a spot due to it's popularity, no cost. Go to the observatory website to make a reservation.

Some people prefer to get a motel in Goldendale and sleep/show/eat there during the day then come out to the site at dusk and stay all night.

Send any questions to Alan at darkskysite@seattleastro.org.
